Example: the 07:30 and 17:00 Idola Express on the Ferryhopper timetable for 5 November 2026. Other operators take 35 min to 1 hr. Book the return boat with the outward one, and plan transport on the island before you go.

Before you travel

  • Nusa Penida entry fee

Nusa Penida charges its own fee on top of the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000: IDR 25,000 per adult and IDR 15,000 per child aged 4 to 13. It is collected at the harbours in Banjar Nyuh and Buyuk.

  • Check your arrival harbour

Most boats from Sanur arrive at Banjar Nyuh; 4 a day go to Buyuk, further east. The harbour is on your ticket. Arrange your pick-up for the right one.

  • Fast boat tickets

Ferryhopper sells the fast boats from Sanur, Serangan, Nusa Dua and Padang Bai. Check-in time and place are on your ticket: finding the departure point.

  • Luggage

Free luggage differs by operator: on Ferryhopper, from 1 bag of 20 kg to 2 bags of 30 kg together. Per operator. Ask the operator about surfboards before you book.

  • Reduced mobility

Banjar Nyuh has a pier with pontoons, which does not mean there are no steps. Ask the operator about steps, help with boarding and wheelchairs before you book: what to ask.

  • Flights on the same day

We cannot say whether a connection will work. Boat and flight are separate bookings, and the sea can delay or stop boats: what to count.

  • Getting around the island

Visitors get around Nusa Penida by scooter or by car with a driver. Arrange it before you arrive, especially on a day trip.

  • Nyepi

On Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence, the ports in Bali close. In 2026 the ferry service at Padang Bai stopped from 04:00 on 19 March to 11:30 on 20 March; other ports can differ. The date and times change every year; check them before you plan a crossing in March or April.

Weather and disruption

Check before you travel

High waves in the Badung Strait can delay or stop the fast boats. BMKG, the Indonesian weather agency, expects the highest waves from June to August, with the south-east monsoon. In early August 2025, Sanur harbour cancelled 80 to 90 fast boat trips when waves reached about 4 m.

BMKG publishes a daily wave forecast for the Badung Strait: maritim.bmkg.go.id. If your boat is cancelled, contact the seller of your ticket. For a Ferryhopper booking, tell Ferryhopper, because refunds are not automatic.
