Before you travel
Good to know about Nusa Penida
Practical points for the island. Boat times, check-in and the day trip are in the route guide.
Roads
The roads are narrow, winding and steep, and rough away from the north coast. Clay roads in the east get slippery in the rain. Fuel is easiest to find in Toyapakeh and Sampalan.
Getting around
Visitors get around by scooter or by car with a driver. Arrange it before you arrive, especially on a day trip.
Entry fee
Nusa Penida charges IDR 25,000 per adult and IDR 15,000 per child aged 4 to 13, collected at the harbours. It comes on top of the Bali tourist levy of IDR 150,000. It was introduced as one payment for all three Nusa islands: keep your receipt and ask at the harbour if you cross to another island.
Kelingking Beach
The way down to the beach is a steep path along the cliff. A lift built next to it has not opened, and it was the subject of a court case in September 2026.
Money
The island has few ATMs. Withdraw cash in Bali before you cross, and carry a card for the fees.
Snorkelling
Snorkel trips usually combine Manta Point, where manta rays are seen all year, with Crystal Bay. What you see depends on the sea that day.
